Biographical Information[edit]

Chia-Wei Yang had played in the CPBL.

Yang represented Taiwan in the 2011 World Youth Championship [1] and 2012 World Junior Championship (hitting .280/.308/.280 and fielding .962 as their main second sacker) [2]. Moving to third in the 2013 World Junior Championship, he batted .276/.371/.379 with 8 RBI in 9 games. He allowed two unearned runs in 4 2/3 IP and beat both Mexico and South Korea. He tied teammate Li Lin and two others for fifth in RBI and only Se-woong Park had more wins. [3]

The Uni-President Lions drafted him in the second round of the 2014 CPBL Draft, but he spent his first three seasons primarily in the minor league due to kidney disease, only playing one games with the big club in 2014. Yang was promoted in 2017, and he hit .238/.323/.440 with 4 homers. He was also selected into the 2017 CPBL All-Star Game, but he was 0-for-1.[4]

The Kaohsiung native returned to the minor league again in 2018, and he only played 20 games with the big club. He hit .306/.378/.484 in the minors, so the Lions decided to bring him into the 2018 Taiwan Series. Yang was 0-for-3 in Game 1, then hit a double against Michael Nix of the Lamigo Monkeys. He had a 0-for-4 record in Game 4, then went 2-for-4 with a double off Nix in Game 5. The Lions were still beaten by the Monkeys in 6 games. He won a spot in the major league in 2019, and he hit .253/.307/.357 in 89 games (playing mainly second base but a decent bit at third). However, Yang was 3-for-25 before the Lions demoted him in 202, and he only played 15 games with the big club in 2022. He was caught drunk driving on October 10, and the Lions immediately released him. [5]

Overall, Yang hit .229/.295/.363 with 94 hits and 12 homers in 6 seasons in CPBL.
