Biographical Information

Pitcher Michael Nix began his professional career in 2005.

He was taken in the 11th round of the 2005 amateur draft by the Atlanta Braves. He began his career with a 10.9 K/9 IP ratio in 2005 and followed that with a 2.43 ERA, 10 saves and a 10.6 K/9 IP ratio in 2006. In 2007, he had a 2.61 ERA and a 9.7 K/9 IP ratio. His successes to that point had been at the low- and mid-minors.

Things unraveled in 2008. Though he performed well during his first stay at Triple-A -- his ERA was 3.07 in 11 games for the Richmond Braves -- his overall ERA was 5.60 after he struggled with the Double-A club, the Mississippi Braves.

The Colorado Rockies signed him to a contract for 2009, but after struggling, he was let go and latched on in independent baseball. He played at that level from 2009 to 2013. Of note, his 2010 ERA was 2.48 in 46 games and he saved 18 games in 2011. After succeeding with the independent Sugar Land Skeeters to begin 2013 (9-2, 1.88 ERA), he was signed by the Chicago White Sox and struggled at the Double-A and Triple-A levels. Overall, he was 13-6 with a 3.48 ERA that year.

He began 2014 back with Sugar Land, but was signed by the San Diego Padres in May. He spent most of the year with their Triple-A club, the El Paso Chihuahuas, posting a 4.68 ERA in 59 2/3 innings with the club. As a whole, he went 9-4 with a 3.84 ERA that year.

He wound up south of the border in 2015, playing for the Mexican League's Saraperos de Saltillo.
