Biographical Information[edit]

Hao-Wei Shen has played in the Chinese Professional Baseball League and Australian Baseball League as well as for the Taiwanese national team.

Shen played for Taiwan in the 2014 Asian Junior Championship. [1] He hit .250/.321/.344 in the 2015 U-18 Baseball World Cup but drove in 8 runs to tie for 8th in the event. [2] He was the second pick of the 2015 CPBL Draft, following Chih-Chieh Su, going to the Fubon Guardians. [3]

For the 2017 Guardians, he hit .215/.229/.280 in 35 games, with no walks in 96 plate appearances. [4] His first CPBL hit was off former major leaguer Zack Segovia. Shen was also selected into the 2017 CPBL All-Star Game, and he was 0-for-1. He played in the Asia Winter League after the season. [5] With Fubon in the 2018 CPBL, he improved significantly, to .288/.344/.439 in 45 games. His first CPBL homer came off Tzu-Peng Huang. Shen again attended the 2018 CPBL All-Star Game, and he was 1-for-3 with a run scored.

In the 2018 Asian Games, he backed up Ju-Liang Tai in LF and Chia-Yu Lin in CF for the Bronze Medalists. He went 1 for 5, his lone hit coming off Gordon Chun-Ming Chau of Hong Kong. [6] He hit .240/.324/.292 for the Sydney Blue Sox in the 2018-2019 Australian Baseball League. He slumped to .206/.260/.294 in 2019, then he had a .279/.332/.454 batting line with 8 homers in 2020. Shen hit .272/.356/.397 in 2021, but he only had a .249/.304/.384 batting line with 12 steals in 2022. He was 10th in steals in 2022, 26 behind Chen-Wei Chen.

Shen struggled again in 2023, and his batting line fell to .230/.303/.382 with 12 homers. He was 6th in homers, 11 behind Giljegiljaw Kungkuan. Shen then played for Taiwan in the 2022 Asian Games (which were held in 2023 after delays). He debuted against Thailand, going 2-for-3 with a RBI. He then went 0-for-4 against South Korea, and he was 0-for-4 against Hong Kong. Shen had a 0-for-4 record combined in the next two games. In the Gold Medal Game, Shn was 0-for-3 and Taiwan lost to South Korea to won Silver. [7]
