Biographical Information[edit]

Outfielder Tzu-Hao Chen has played for the Taiwanese national team at age-based levels and in the CPBL.

In the 2013 U-18 Baseball World Cup, Chen was 13 for 30 with 6 RBI. He was named to the All-Star team for the event, joining Adam Haseley and Tyler O'Neill in the outfield. The CTBC Brothers selected Chen in the 2nd round of 2013 CPBL Draft. He debuted on October 13, and became the youngest player ever to play in the CPBL. In 2014, Chen collected his first career home run off Chin-Mu Lee on April 12 and stole his first base on April 25, setting the league record for the youngest player to have a stolen base and hit a home run as his first career hit. He bat .247/.293/.367 with 4 dingers and was selected into his first All-Star game this year; he was 1-for-2. In the 2014 Taiwan Series, he was 1-for-5 and the Brothers were beaten by the Lamigo Monkeys in 5 games. Chen hit .298/.378/.407 with 5 home runs in 2015. He even tied the league record for most walks in a game on June 20 with 4 walks. In next year, Chen improved his batting and hit .350/.410/.554 with career-high 15 home runs.

Chen had a career year in 2017. He hit 3 home runs in a game against the Uni-President Lions on April 30, setting the league record of the youngest player to do that, and broke the team record for most total bases in a game with 17. He blasted a career-high 19 homers in just 78 game played. His slash lines was .336/.403/.622. Chen hit .333/.412/.400 in the 2017 Taiwan Series, but the Monkeys beat the Brothers again in 5 games. In 2018, Chen hit .290/.368/.449 with 15 long balls in a career-high 115 game played. He won his first Best Ten in this year.

The Taitung native won his arbitration case in 2019, and became the first player to win it in the league ever. He hit 3 homers in a game again on July 23, and tied the league record for most RBI by a local player in a game with 8 RBI. He batted .298/.360/.496 with 19 dingers, and joined the All-Star game 3 years in a row; he was 0-for-4. He continued his elite performance next year, hit .288/.380/.495 with 11 homers. He also won his first Gold Glove this year. Chen hit .250/.275/.300 in the 2020 Taiwan Series, but the Elephants were beaten by the Uni-President Lions in 7 games.

Chen blasted his 100th career home run on November 20 2021, which set the record of the youngest player to accomplish that achievement. He hit .276/.388/.448 with 14 homers this year. He led the league in walks(58), finished second in RBI(13 behind Yu-Hsien Chu) and fourth in homers (14). In Game 3 of the 2021 Taiwan Series, his three-run homer off Hsuan-Ta Liu in the 7th broke a 2-2 tie; the Brothers swept the Uni-President Lions. He hit .285/.388/.445 with 10 homers in 2022, and was selected into the All-Star game again. Chen was 2-for-4 with 2 RBI in the 2022 CPBL All-Star Game. He finished second in RBI (18 behind Li Lin), fourth in homers (10), fourth in walks (48), and third in slugging (behind Lin and Giljegiljaw Kungkuan). He again had a three-run homer in the 2022 Taiwan Series, this time the big hit in Game 2 off Jen-Ho Tseng as the Brothers beat the Rakuten Monkeys. His batting line was .188/.316/.375 for the whole series though.

Due to a right hand injury, Chen missed the 2023 World Baseball Classic and he struggled in 2023. His batting line fell to .178/.320/.364 with 4 homers.
