The Orix Blue Wave signed Yu in 2002, but he only pitched 6 games in NPB Farm Leagues, and decided to come back to his hometown Taiwan after that season.

The Sinon Bulls drafted Yu in the first round of the 2003 CPBL Draft. The talented pitcher soon became an important part of the Bulls bullpen, as he recorded a 2.22 ERA and pitched 97 2/3 innings as a reliever. Yu's ERA rose to 4.39 in 2004, but he bounced back soon. His ERAs were 3.06 and 3.70 respectively in the next two years. Yu suffered from elbow injury and his ERA rose to 5.32 in 2007.

In 2008 season, the Bulls decided to moved Yu into their rotation. The veteran unexpectedly had a strong pitching performance in this year. He started 16 games with an elite 3.96 ERA, and collected a career-high 7 wins. Yu still started 11 games in 2009, but he was removed from the rotation in the second half since his ERA rose to 5.12. Yu's last productive season was 2011, when he pitched 31 games with a 3.57 ERA. When the 35-year-old Yu allowed 14 runs in 8 1/3 innings in 2012, he announced his retirement and turned into a coach. He was the pitching coach for the EDA Rhinos from 2012 to 2019, and became the manager for the Fubon Guardians minor team from 2020 to 2021.

Yu's repertoire included a fastball (peak 91.3 mph), curveball, changeup, sinker, forkball, cutter and slider.
