Biographical Information

Hao-Ju Tseng has been an outfielder and manager in the Chinese Professional Baseball League.

Tseng played in the 1992 Little League World Series qualifiers, but Taiwan lost to the Philippines in the Far East championship and fell just short. The La New Bears drafted him in the 7th round of the 2003 CPBL Draft, and he made his CPBL debut in 2004, hitting .223/.271/.287. He batted .208/.259/.305 in 2005 and .287/.366/.433 in 2006. In the 2006 Taiwan Series, Tseng was 1-for-12 and the Bears still swept the Uni-President Lions. He fell to .246/.329/.361 in his first season as a full-time player in 2007. Tseng was 1-for-14 in the 2007 Taiwan Series, and the Bears lost to the Lions in 7 games.

The Taichung native improved to .280/.346/.409 in 2008 but faded to .243/.314/.400 in 2009. In 2010, he hit .259/.373/.400 and was at .247/.345/.386 in 2011, when the Bears became the Lamigo Monkeys. Tseng attended the 2011 CPBL All-Star Game, and he was 0-for-1. He was a bench player in 2012 (.263/.333/.379) and 2013 (.212/.248/.389). For his career, he had batted .247/.323/.374 with 255 runs and 244 RBI in 727 games.

Tseng coached for Lamigo's minor league team in 2014-2015 and for the top club from 2016-2019, during which time they won three Taiwan Series. He coached for the Taiwanese national team in the 2019 Premier 12. When Lamigo became the Rakuten Monkeys in 2020, he was their first skipper, going 59-61. He led the Monkeys had a 56-61 record in 2021, and they improved to 70-46 in 2022. Rakuten advanced to the 2022 Taiwan Series, but they were swept by the CTBC Brothers. In 2023, the Monkeys were 60-56 and they were beaten by the Wei Chuan Dragons. Kenji Furukubo then replaced Tseng.

Overall, Tseng hit .247/.323/.374 with 494 hits, 118 doubles and 37 homers in 10 seasons in the CPBL. He was 245-214-7 as a manager.
