Biographical Information[edit]

Cheng-Tang Wang has played in the CPBL.

Wang represented Taiwan in the 2012 World Junior Championship, going 0-for-16 with two walks and a run while fielding .909 at second base. [1] In the 2013 U-18 Baseball World Cup, he mostly was used at DH, batting .357/.486/.393 with eight runs in nine games and also pitched briefly (1 UER in 3 IP). He had a four-hit game against Venezuela. He tied for 8th in the Cup in runs and tied for 7th in walks. He was named the All-Star DH. [2] In the 2016 Haarlem Baseball Week, he was again with Taiwan. [3]

He was on Taiwan's roster for 2017 Universiade, but he made a fatal error while trying to catch Félix Brown's fly ball, so Taiwan was beaten by France and ranked 5th. The Fubon Guardians drafted him in the second round of the 2018 CPBL Draft, and he soon became their starting second baseman. He hit .352/.412/.451 in his rookie year. In the 2018 CPBL Playoff Series, he hit .353/.368/.471, with a triple against Yu-Kang Fu in Game 2, but the Guardians were defeated by the Uni-President Lions in 4 games.[4] As he only played 32 games, he did not win any postseason awards.

The Kaohsiung native was selected into the 2019 CPBL All-Star Games, and he was 4-for-4 with 2 doubles and a RBI in Game 1; he was 1-for-4 in Game 2. Wang hit .278/.323/.393 with 29 doubles in 2019, and he ranked 2nd in doubles, 1 behind Chih-Chieh Su. Yen-Wen Kuo was named the league's best second baseman. However, Wang slumped to .257/.296/.366 in 2020, and his batting line fell to .235/.312/.333 in 2021. Wang bounced back in 2022, hitting .298/.326/.356 with 16 doubles. He split action between second base and outfield in 2023, and his batting line was .253/.314/.348 while he hit 4 homers.[5]
