Biographical Information[edit]

Kuan-Wei Chen has been a CPBL Rookie of the Year. He is the son of Olympian Wei-Cheng Chen. [1]

Chen was a 17th-round pick of the Wei Chuan Dragons in the 2019 CPBL Draft. [2] He pitched in the Asia Winter Baseball League that year. [3] He made it to the CPBL in 2021, going 3-1 with a 1.80 ERA and .80 WHIP in 27 outings, fanning 29 in 25 innings. He was 3-2 with 9 saves and a 3.33 ERA in 49 games for the 2022 CPBL, posting a .89 WHIP. He whiffed 61 in 46 innings and finished fifth in games pitched and was seventh in saves (between C.C. Lee and Keury Mella). He was named CPBL Rookie of the Year in this year.

The Taitung native made it onto Taiwan's roster for the 2023 World Baseball Classic. He allowed 2 runs in 2/3 of an inning against Panama in the event opener. Chen then pitched against Cuba, but he allowed a solo shot to Yoan Moncada in his 1 2/3 innings. Chen recorded a 2.13 ERA in 58 relief outings in 2023, and he notched 11 holds and 14 saves. He ranked 5th in saves, 8 behind Yen-Ching Lu.

Chen's repertoire includes a fastball (peak 94.4 mph) and a forkball. [4]
