Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Keury Mella was signed by the San Francisco Giants before the 2012 season. He spent his first season as a professional with the DSL Giants, putting up a 2.47 ERA in 14 starts, then moved to the AZL Giants in 2013. He had another good season in the Arizona League, with a 2.25 ERA in 10 games while striking out 41 batters in 36 innings. In 2014, he began the year with the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes of the Northwest League, then was promoted to the Augusta GreenJackets after putting up a 1.86 ERA in 6 starts. In the South Atlantic League, he went 3-3, 3.95 in 12 starts.

2015 saw Keury emerge as a top prospect as, pitching for the San Jose Giants of the California League, he was named to the World Team in the 2015 Futures Game. He was 5-3, 3.31 in 15 starts for San Jose, with over a strikeout per inning, when on July 31st he was traded to the Cincinnati Reds along with IF Adam Duvall in return for major league starter Mike Leake.
