2001 Major League Baseball
(Redirected from 2001 ML)
The 2001 Major League Baseball season was the second season in which the two major leagues, the National League and the American League, were consolidated into a single entity under the authority of the Commissioner, Bud Selig.
Events[edit]
The 2001 season included an Opening Day match-up between the Toronto Blue Jays and Texas Rangers played at Hiram Bithorn Stadium in San Juan, Puerto Rico on April 1st; it was the first major league ever played in Puerto Rico.
Major League Baseball suspended play for a week following the terrorist attacks of September 11th on New York, NY and Washington, DC. Games only resumed on September 17th, with the missed week of games being tacked on to the end of the regular season, and the postseason starting a week later than originally scheduled.
Following the 2001 World Series, MLB announced plans to contract two teams, the Minnesota Twins and the Montreal Expos, but these plans were thwarted by a lawsuit filed in Minnesota.
