- Born August 14, 1964 in Trowbridge England
Biographical Information[edit]
Ian Lamplugh was a National League umpire in September of 1999, being promoted from the minor leagues to help fill the depleted umpire ranks following the failed mass resignation ploy by members of the Major League Umpires Association. In 2000, when the two leagues' umpiring staffs were merged, he worked a full schedule of 144 games, but was apparently not given tenure as he only worked a few games over the next couple of years. He umpired his last MLB game in June of 2002. Overall, he spent 14 years in the minors, 6 of them at AAA. Born in England, he was one of the few MLB umpires who grew up in Canada (British Columbia).
Lamplugh also worked in the Dominican Winter League. From 2004-2007, he umpired in the Chinese Professional Baseball League.
