Summary[edit]
The 2001 postseason was a celebration of the American spirit after the tragic attacks of 9/11. The Yankees represented their battered city with pride, coming back from a two game defecit to beat the A's and then beating the league's winningest club, the Mariners.
The Yankees met the Diamondbacks in one of the most exciting and emotional World Series ever played. Arizona beat the Cardinals and the Braves to reach their first World Series. The Yankees lost the first two games of the series at Arizona, but rallied to win three at Yankee Stadium. New York ultimately fell in the seventh game, played at Bank One Ballpark. It was a series full of dramatic home runs and dazzling starting pitching.
When America needed something to celebrate, baseball provided a postseason that will not soon be forgotten.
