The next inning, another Met, Carlos Beltran, scored on Roy Halladay's wild pitch. The National League held the lead until the top of the 9th, when Michael Young of the Texas Rangers hit a two-run triple off San Diego Padres closer Trevor Hoffman to give the AL the upper hand. New York Yankees closer Mariano Rivera pitched a scoreless 9th to preserve the American League's 3-2 victory.
