The 2020 All-Star Game was slated to be the 91st edition of the Midsummer Classic. It was to take place at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, CA on July 14th. It was only the second time the game would be played at the venerable ballpark, the other time having been in 1980. Some $100 million in renovations were scheduled in order to spruce up the ballpark before the game.

The event's logo was meant to celebrate the golden age of Hollywood.

There was a question about who would manage the American League squad at the game following the firing of A.J. Hinch, who would normally have been asked to do so after having led the Houston Astros to the 2019 World Series. Major League Baseball let it be known that it would be Dusty Baker, shortly after Baker was hired as Hinch's replacement in Houston. The game wound up being cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, however, the first time the Mid-summer classic had been cancelled since 1945. With Atlanta, GA well along in its preparations to host the game in 2021, MLB decided to have Los Angeles be the host in 2022.
