The AL got on the scoreboard first, when starting pitcher Lefty Gomez of the New York Yankees singled home Jimmie Dykes of the Chicago White Sox in the bottom of the second inning. Another Yankee, Babe Ruth, added to the AL lead with a two run home run the following inning. The NL scored twice in the sixth inning, but the AL added a run in the bottom of that frame to make it 4-2. That was the final as Gomez was the game's winning pitcher.
