Ted Williams Award

From BR Bullpen

(Redirected from All-Star Game MVP)

Established in 1962, the Ted Williams All-Star Game Most Valuable Player Award , known before 2002 as the All-Star Game MVP Award given to the game's most valuable player. The award was named in honor of former Boston Red Sox great Ted Williams.

Ironically, the award was not given the first year under its new name, when the 2002 All-Star Game ended in a tie; commissioner Bud Selig was widely criticized for failing to honor a player for his efforts in the game as if the whole contest had been a public embarrassment to be forgotten.
