1990 NPB All-Star Game

From BR Bullpen

The 1990 NPB All-Star Games featured two contests, and the Pacific League won both.

Game 1[edit]

Game 1 was July 24 at the Yokohama Stadium, with 27,431 in attendance. The Pacific League got a six-hit shutout from Hideyuki Awano (W), Hisanobu Watanabe, Taigen Kaku, Yukihiko Yamaoki, Hideo Nomo and Yoshihisa Shiratake. It was the second year in a row that the first NPB All-Star Game was a shutout, just as the PL did last year. Ralph Bryant's game-winning, two-run shot off Masaki Saito earned him the MVP, and the PL added three insurance runs as their batters hit a single in four consecutive at-bats. Kazuhiro Kiyohara also added a two-run homer in the 5th inning, and the CL's only highlight was Hiromitsu Ochiai, who had half of their 6 hits.

Game 2[edit]

The second game was a day later, at Heiwadai Stadium; 23,541 were present. It was the first time in All-Star history that both sides' starter were rookies, but Tsuyoshi Yoda allowed a solo shot to Kazuhiro Kiyohara in the 2nd inning, and Nomo also gave up a 2-run homer in the third inning to Hiromitsu Ochiai. Kiyohara added another homer off Kazuhisa Kawaguchi in the 6th inning, and he won the MVP. Ochiai also blasted two homers, but Kazuhiro Takeda allowed 5 runs, including homers by Daijiro Oishi and Takahisa Suzuki in the 8th inning, so the PL swept them.
