Game 3[edit]
Game 3 took place at Miyagi Baseball Stadium July 21 with an attendance of 16,065. The PL's pitchers Akihito Kaneishi, Motoyuki Akahori and Atsunori Ito shut out the CL for 7 innings while striking out six, and Makoto Sasaki's solo shot off Manabu Kitabeppu gave the PL a one-run lead. However, the CL finally broke through against Ito in the 8th inning as Norihiro Komada blasted a game-tying homer. Ito, Shirai and Kawamoto then walked four combined, so the CL added another three runs. Kazuhiro Sasaki, who studied in Miyagi, pitched for the CL in the 9th inning. He gave up a solo shot to Kiyohara, but still struck out the next two batters to collect the save.
