Biographical Information[edit]

Yoshihiro Suzuki has pitched several seasons in Nippon Pro Baseball.

Suzuki led the Aichi University League in ERA while in college. He also worked as a security guard part-time; when the Chunichi Dragons won the 2004 Central League, Yoshihiro worked security. The Dragons then took him in the 5th round of the 2004 NPB draft, the first player in his school's history to turn pro.

Making the Dragons out of spring training in 2005, Suzuki went 5-3 with a 3.56 ERA in 47 games. He was 1-0 with a save, 1.70 ERA and 54 strikeouts in 53 innings in 2006. He did not post the lowest ERA in the Chunichi bullpen as closer Hitoki Iwase was lower. He tossed 1 2/3 shutout innings in the 2006 Japan Series, despite 3 hits in 8 at-bats.

Suzuki had a 1-1, 3.52 record in 30 games in 2007. The sidearmer tossed 1 2/3 shutout innings in the 2007 Japan Series and won game four to help give Chunichi its first Japan Series title in over 50 years. Yoshihiro suffered an elbow injury in 2008 and only pitched 8 innings (2 hits, 9 strikeouts, one run). He was sidelined for most of 2009 (1 R in 4 2/3 IP) as well.

In 2010, Suzuki was 1-0 with a 3.19 ERA and .206 opponent average in 41 games.
