Game 3[edit]

Game 3 took place July 26 at Tokyo Dome with an attendance of 42,061; it was the first time that an All-Star Game was held in the Tokyo Dome. The PL's Takazawa hit a leadoff solo shot against Kazuyuki Ono, and Kadota added a pinch-hit RBI single in the 7th inning. The CL tied the game with Shota and Ponce's back-to-back hits, and this game went to extra innings. MVP winner Shota hit a leadoff triple in the bottom of the 12th inning, but the CL had used all their backup batters. Thus, they sent pitcher Mizuno to the plate, and he hit a walk-off sacrifice fly against Ushijima. The league changed the rule the next year, so this was the last extra-inning All-Star Game.
