Tokyo Dome

From BR Bullpen

The Tokyo Dome in Bunkyo, Tokyo was constructed in 1988. It was modeled after the Hubert H Humphrey Metrodome and had a capacity of 50,000. Nicknamed "The Big Egg", it was first used for a Mike Tyson boxing match in March before it began being used for baseball. The first domed stadium in Japan, it was home to the Yomiuri Giants and Nippon Ham Fighters. In 2004 the Fighters moved to Sapporo, Hokkaido, leaving Yomiuri as the sole occupant of the stadium.

The ballpark has also hosted the opening series of the Major League Baseball season on a number of occasions, the first time on March 29, 2000 when the Chicago Cubs defeated the New York Mets, 5-3. This happened again in 2012 when the Oakland Athletics played host to the Seattle Mariners for a pair of games. The same two teams met again in 2019 for a two-game series starting on March 20th.
