The 2005 Pacific Coast League season was the 103rd in the league's history. It ended with the Nashville Sounds winning their first championship since the 1982 Southern League.
Rick Short nearly hit .400, having been at .402 as late as August 19th before a late-season slide. At age 32, he was finally called up to the majors at the end of the campaign and started 6 for 15 before an injury.
