The 2005 Houston Astros beat the Atlanta Braves, 3 games to 1, in the Division Series; Game 4 of that series was the longest game in postseason history; it was won by a Chris Burke home run in the 18th inning
They then beat the St. Louis Cardinals, 4 games to 2, in the NLCS to advance to the World Series for the first time in team history. However, they lost to the 2005 White Sox#Chicago White Sox, 4 games to none, in the 2005 World Series - although all four games were close.
