Overview[edit]
The Chicago White Sox won the 2005 American League Championship Series after finishing the season with the best record in the American League, swept the Boston Red Sox in three games in the Division Series. The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim reached the ALCS by beating the New York Yankees, 3 games to 2, in the other American League Division Series.

Game 2 ended in controversy when A.J. Pierzynski reached on a strikeout and a dropped third strike. Umpire Doug Eddings signaled a third strike, which some believed was an out call. Pierzynski reached as the Angels were walking off the field, but they had to return to face another batter. Joe Crede then drove in the winning run with a double.
