1984 AL Championship Series (3-0): Detroit Tigers (104-58) defeated Kansas City Royals (84-78)

Introduction[edit]

Umpires[edit]

The Major League Umpires Association went on strike before the start of the 1984 postseason, forcing the American League to use a substitute crew for the ALCS. Retired umpire Bill Deegan worked home plate all three games, while his two most experienced assistants were at first and second base. Different fill-in umpires were assigned to the other umpiring positions.
