Biographical Information[edit]

Larry Zirbel was a replacement umpire.

Zirbel served in World War II. He was a teacher for 37 years. He officiated baseball, football, basketball and softball in high school and college. He worked in the NFL and was an umpire for Game 2 of the 1984 ALCS with the regular MLB umps on strike. It was not his first experience at the major league level, as during the 1979 umpires' strike, at the start of the season, he had worked 13 American League games. He also worked the 1984 World Junior Championship.
