Biographical Information[edit]

Doug Cossey was a replacement umpire in the American League on three different occasions. The first came when the regular umpires staged a one-day strike on August 25, 1978. He then worked 10 games during the 1979 umpires strike, and came back one last time during the 1984 American League Championship Series, when the regular umpires walked out again.

He had previously worked as a minor league umpire, starting in the Florida Rookie League in 1965, and in 1966 and 1967 he worked in the Northern League. In 1968, he was in the Pioneer League and after not working in 1969, he was in the Carolina League in 1970.
