Biographical Information[edit]
Dick Runchey has been an umpire in several College World Series and the Olympics.
Runchey worked three years in the minor leagues, in the New York-Penn League in 1973 and 1974, and the Midwest League in 1974. During his collegiate career, he worked the 1982 College World Series, 1983 College World Series, 1990 College World Series, 1994 College World Series and 1998 College World Series. On the international stage, he worked the 1987 Pan American Games, 1988 Baseball World Cup and 1992 Olympics. He later served as the IBAF Director of Umpires from 2003-2010, covering both the 2004 Olympics and 2008 Olympics. In 2011, he won the first National Collegiate Umpire Award from the College Baseball Hall of Fame.
He worked a few American League games as a substitute umpire during the 1979 umpires' strike and was the left field umpire for Game 3 of the 1984 ALCS during another labor conflict between the American League and its regular umpires.
