History, Comments, Contributions[edit]

On September 27th, the 1963 Houston Colt .45's fielded an all-rookie starting lineup. The average age of the starters was 19, and four players (including starters Sonny Jackson and Jay Dahl) made their big league debut in the game. However, the New York Mets were victorious, beating the Colts, 10 to 3.

Second baseman Joe Morgan went on to the Hall of Fame, and Jim Wynn, Rusty Staub, and Jerry Grote all had solid major league careers. Starting pitcher Dahl never appeared in another major league game and was killed in a car accident on June 20, 1965 before he ahd turned 20.
