2011 Little League World Series

The 2011 Little League World Series was won by Huntington Beach, CA, which brought the title back to the USA by defeating the Japanese entry; Japan had won in 2010.

2011 was the first year of double elimination brackets, 1 for the U.S. teams and 1 for the International teams. A team from Uganda initially became the first African team to qualify for a Little League World Series, but was found to have ineligible players. The Africa/Middle East slot then went once again to a team from Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, composed of American children of oil industry employees.

Billings, MT 6, Rapid City, SD 4. The first Montanan entry in a Little League World Series started off well. Connor Kieckbusch and Cole McKenzie each drove in two runs to overcome two homers by Rapid City's Erik Petry.
Hamamatsu, Shizuoka 12, Oranjestad 1. Yoshiki Suzuki hit a grand slam while Mitsuhiro Uchida drove in three for the Japanese in an opening win.
Mexicali, Baja California 3, Kaohsiung 0. Jorge Jacobo allows only two hits while whiffing 12. Taiwan suffers its first shutout in the past 55 Little League World Series games.
Lafayette, LA 2, Warner Robins, GA 0. Ethan Hines tosses five shutout innings for Louisiana but allows the bases loaded with none out in the sixth; Haden Erbe saves it by getting the last three outs.

August 19[edit]

La Grange, KY 1, Clinton County, PA 0. Griffin McLarty whiffs 12 and provides all the offense wit ha solo homer to quiet the Pennsylvanian squad. Playing only 30 miles from home, they draw 41,848 in attendance, the largest LLWS crowd ever, topping the 40,000 at the 1989 Little League World Series and 1990 Little League World Series finales. Clinton County was the first team from the Williamsport area to play in the LLWS since 1969.
Huntington Beach, CA 11, Cumberland, RI 0. Trevor Windisch drives in three and Braydon Salzman picks up the win.
Langley, BC 6, Dhahran 5. Saudi Arabia takes a 5-2 lead in the third thanks to three Canadian errors, but Canada rallies following a 90-minute rain delay. Cole Cantelon gets three hits and picks up the victory, while Colby Ring scores the game-winner on a wild pitch in the bottom of the 6th.
Maracay, Aragua 6, Rotterdam, Zuid-Holland 1. Keny Marquez whiffs 10 for the Venezuelans, while Omar Conoropo Jr. drives in three.

August 20[edit]

Clinton County, PA 2, Cumberland, RI 0. The Pennsylvanians stay alive thanks to a 3-hit, 6-strikeout effort by Alex Garbrick. Wyatt Koch singles in both runs in the 5th to break a tie.
Warner Robins, GA 6, Rapid City, SD 3. Jake Fromm drives in four to keep Warner Robins alive.
Kaohsiung 20, Oranjestad 3. Chin-Hao Yang goes 4 for 4 with 3 runs as Taiwan pounds Aruba out of contention.
Dhahran 4, Rotterdam, Zuid-Holland 2. The other team of Dutch nationals is also eliminated, falling to Saudi Arabia in a must-win game.

August 21[edit]

Billings, MT 3, Lafayette, LA 1. Patrick Zimmer shut down Lafayette for five innings and Ben Askelson drove in two to keep Montana undefeated.
Huntington Beach, CA 10, La Grange, KY 0. California kept on cruising behind a two-hitter from Hagen Danner and Nick Pratto.
Maracay, Aragua 8, Langley, BC 0. Yonny Hernandez cracked two homers to help Venezuela remain unbeaten.
Mexicali, Baja California 3, Hamamatsu, Shizuoka 2. The game was deadlocked until the bottom of the 7th, when Bruno Ruiz hit the game-winning single with two outs.

August 22[edit]

Clinton County, PA 10, Lafayette, LA 0. Landon Breon and Brandon Miller team up on a no-hitter that ends after 3 1/2 innings due to the mercy rule.
Warner Robins, GA 8, La Grange, KY 5. Jake Fromm struck out 10 and hit a 9th-inning homer to lead Georgia to a win.
Langley, BC 5, Kaohsiung 3. Canada defeats Taiwan for the first time in 17 LLWS matches behind hurler Yi An Pan.
Hamamatsu, Shizuoka 13, Dhahran 4. Sotaro Yoshida homers and drives in three to knock out Dhahran.
Oranjestad 5, Rapid City, SD 0. In the consolation match, Gillian Wernet whiffs 12 in a four-hit whitewash for Aruba.

August 23[edit]

Clinton County, PA 7, Warner Robins, GA 5. Clinton County scores six in the first inning en route to another win. Brandon Miller scored the first of the six and drove in the last of them in a busy inning. Georgia gets two on with two out but Tyler McCloskey gets the last batter to end it.
Hamamatsu, Shizuoka 4, Langley, BC 0. Asuya Otsuka hits a RBI triple and Ken Igeta a RBI double in the third inning as Japan eliminates Canada. Nick Atkinson had three hits for the losers.
Cumberland, RI 8, Rotterdam 7. In a consolation game, Cumberland rallies for four runs in the bottom of the 6th to win. Colin Cannata scores the winning run on an error during a pick-off attempt.

August 24[edit]

Billings, MT 1, Huntington Beach, CA 0. California's Nick Pratto (9 K in 4 IP) and Montana's Cole McKenzie (4 K in 5 2/3 IP) engaged in a fine pitching duel. In the 6th, Huntington Beach loaded the bases with two outs when Sean Jones relieved and retired Hagen Danner to force extra innings. In the 7th, Ben Askelson homered to give Billings a trip to the semifinals against either Huntington Beach or Clinton County.
Mexicali, Baja California 2, Maracay, Aragua 1. Another extra-inning affair ended with a homer, when Bruno Ruiz hit one over the center-field wall in the 9th inning. Mexico advanced to the semifinals against either Venezuela or Japan.

August 25[edit]

Huntington Beach, CA 2, Clinton County, PA 0. The Pennsylvanians finish third, unable to solve Hagen Danner. Danner fans 12 as the winning pitcher and also homers. Clinton County gets one on with one out in the 6th but Braydon Salzman relieves Danner and gets the last two outs.
Hamamatsu, Shizuoka 9, Maracay, Aragua 6. Yoshiki Suzuki homers twice to power Japan to the semifinals. With the potential tying run at the plate in the 6th and final inning, Gaishi Iguchi strikes out the last two batters to end it.

August 26[edit]

Huntington Beach, CA 11, Billings, MT 2. California routed Montana in their rematch, as Nick Pratto fanned 10 and drove in three to lead his club to the championship match.
Hamamatsu, Shizuoka 5, Mexicali, Baja California 2. Yoshiki Suzuki struck out seven and Kaito Suzuki produced three runs as Japan won the international side of the tournament.

August 27[edit]

Huntington Beach, CA 2, Hamamatsu, Shizuoka 1. Braydon Salzman allows only three hits in a complete game win. Hagen Danner homered for California's first run. In the bottom of the 6th, California had two on with one out. A potential double-play grounder was hit to SS Gaishi Iguchi, who made a crucial error. The next play resulted in a force at home. Nick Pratto then singled off Kazuto Takakura to drive in Eric Anderson with the winner.
