1974 Little League World Series
The 1974 Little League World Series was the 28th Little League World Series. The teams were Esquimalt, BC, Kaohsiung, Athens (the only Greek entry through 2013), Coquivacoa, Maracaibo, Red Bluff, CA, New Haven, CT, Tallmadge, OH and Jackson, TN. Alfredo Urdaneta of Maracaibo had a 0.00 ERA in 13 IP but Taiwan put up the superb numbers. They set a record for team OBP (.540) which still until 1986, with an ERA of 0.33 and a .071 opponent average. Wen-Hsiung Lin went 8 for 10 with 5 homers, a new record which stood until two other Taiwanese players topped it in 1996; his 2.300 slugging percentage was second in Series history behind Lloyd McClendon in 1971. In the finale, Kaohsiung pounded Red Bluff, 12-1; Lin fanned 15 in a two-hit, one-walk gem. He also went 4 for 4 with two homers and 3 RBI. 1B Sun-Teh Kao and 3B Cheng-Chang Chen each homered and drove in 3. C Jung-Kwei Hsu was 0 for 3 with a walk and a run but later made it to the Taiwan national team. Chang-Gun Xiao was their head coach.
