1991 Little League World Series
The 1991 Little League World Series was the 45th Little League World Series. It included teams from Nova Scotia, Taichung, San Cristobal, San Cristobal, Dhahran, Danville, CA, Dunedin, FL, Staten Island, NY and Hamilton, OH.
Taichung had a 20-hit game against Nova Scotia which included the first four-homer inning in LLWS history; Wei-Chu Lin hit two dingers that game. Dhahran featured Giselle Hardy, the 4th girl, to appear in a LLWS. Staten Island had a stellar tournament from Jason Marquis, who went 8 for 12 at the plate and tossed 12 innings without a run. He became the 6th pitcher to toss two shutouts in one LLWS, one of them being a no-hitter against Nova Scotia in the consolation game. Another member of the Staten Island team was Mike Cammarata, who would be a firefighter 10 years later and lose his life responding to the attacks on the World Trade Center.
Taichung was the 6th straight team from Taiwan to reach the finale, tying the international record (also held by Taiwan, 1977-1982). In the championship game, Taiwan beat Danville 11-0. Wei-Chu Lin hit a grand slam while Chih-Chiang Pan (who wound up with less pro success than Lin or Marquis) fanned 14 in a 3-hit, one-walk gem. Kevin Graham took the loss.
