1968 Little League World Series
The 1968 Little League World Series was the 22nd Little League World Series. Teams competing were from Sherbrooke, QC, Wiesbaden, Hesse, Osaka, Chinandega, Chinandega, Garden Grove, CA, Terre Haute, IN, Hagerstown, MD and Richmond, VA. In the finale, Osaka beat Richmond, 1-0, for the second straight Japanese title. It was the only 1-0 finale in a LLWS from 1954-2001. Each team got three hits in the championship game, but Japanese pitcher H. Higashide struck out 8 and walked 1 while US hurler Roger Miller walked 6 and struck out 5. One of the three US hits came from Richmond cleanup man Jim Pankovits, who would play in the majors. Garden Grove infielder Turk Schonert would become a NFL quarterback. Miller was notable for being the first player to hit three home runs in a LLWS game.
