1947 Little League World Series

The 1947 Little League World Series was the first Little League World Series. Far from being a world event at that point, it featured eleven Pennsylvanian teams (6 from the Williamsport area) and one from New Jersey. The entries were Harrisburg, PA, Jersey Shore, PA, Milton, PA, Montgomery, PA, Lock Haven, PA, Brandon (Williamsport), Maynard (Williamsport), Montoursville, PA, Newberry (Williamsport), Williamsport, PA, Sunday School (Williamsport) and Hammonton, NJ. Donald Stover of Williamsport drew 8 walks and had a two-homer game, while teammate Richard Heinbach also had a two-homer game. In the finale, Williamsport pounded Lock Haven, 16-7, aided by 6 errors. E. Ungard got the win, C. Russell the loss. 1B F. Wool was 3 for 5 with 3 runs and 4 RBI while 3B T. Ingersol went 4 for 4 with 3 runs and 2 RBI.
