Georgia Southern has sponsored baseball in 1933-1935 and 1947-present. The school was known as South Georgia Teachers College until 1939, Georgia Teachers College from 1939 to 1959, and Georgia Southern College from 1959 to 1990.
On March 15, 2008, GSU set a new NCAA record with 14 home runs in a 26-8 win over Columbia University.
