Biographical information[edit]

Pete Dunn has won over 1,000 games as a college coach.

Dunn was taken by the Kansas City Royals in the 36th round of the 1970 amateur draft. He hit .202/.341/.339 for the 1970 Kingsport Royals with 24 walks in 36 games. He improved to .262/.368/.431 for Kingsport in '71 and fielded .991 behind the plate, but that was it for his minor league career.

Dunn went to Georgia Southern University for his master's degree and worked as an assistant coach there as well. From 1974-1976, he was head coach at Apopka High School. In 1977, he became an assistant coach at Stetson University and he succeeded Jim Ward at the helm in 1979.

Dunn was assistant coach for Team USA in the 1998 Baseball World Cup. In 2001, Dunn's Stetson squad reached as high as #7 in the nation, its best ranking ever. He became the 34th NCAA coach to 1,000 wins in 2006 and was named Atlantic Sun Conference Coach of the Year for the fifth time in 2007.

Dunn has produced several major leaguers, including Lenny DiNardo, Corey Kluber, Eric Knott, Kevin Nicholson and Brian Bocock.

Dunn originally planned to retire after the 2017 season, but offseason knee replacement surgery in 2016 took longer to recover than anticipated. He retired in December 2016 with a 1,312-888-3 record [1].
