Biographical Information[edit]

Gary Givens pitched in the Boston Red Sox system from 1978 to 1980. He was taken by the club in the 18th round of the 1978 amateur draft, a few picks after outfielder Eric Bullock. Between the Elmira Pioneers and Bristol Red Sox his first campaign, Givens went 5-7 with 7 complete games and a 2.88 ERA in 16 games (15 starts). He went 16-12 with 10 complete games, 3 shutouts and a 2.67 ERA in 29 starts for the Winter Haven Red Sox in 1979, striking out just 89 batters in 206 innings. In 1980, his final campaign, Givens went 2-6 with a 6.71 ERA in 16 games (13 starts) for Bristol.

Overall, Givens went 23-25 with a 3.38 ERA in 61 games (57 starts). In 365 innings, he allowed 361 hits and 140 walks (1.373 WHIP).
