Biographical Information[edit]
Alan Beck has been a minor league player and college coach.
He was twice All-Southern Conference first-team as a player, ranking among the Conference top-10 for career RBI, walks, total bases, runs, hits, doubles and homers (as of 2022). He was named SoCon Player of the Year in 2003, when he led in homers (18), RBI (71), runs (67) and walks 945). The Baltimore Orioles took him in the 16th round of the 2003 amateur draft.
Beck split the summer between the Bluefield Orioles (.239/.397/.370 in 16 G) and Aberdeen IronBirds (.083/.135/.167 in 18 G), then suffered a wrist injury to end his career. He returned to Western Carolina as an assistant coach then was assistant at Young Harris College (2007). In 2008, he was the first Director of Baseball Operations at the University of Tennessee. From 2009-2015, he was back at Western Carolina. He was assistant at Georgia Southern University from 2016-2022.
He became head coach of Western Carolina for 2023, replacing the recently retired Bobby Moranda.
