Biographical Information[edit]
Chase Dollander entered the 2020 Amateur Draft, but went unselected. (That was the draft that was severely abbreviated to just five rounds during the Covid-19 weirdness that occurred that summer). After one season at Georgia Southern University in 2021, he transferred to the University of Tennessee where he was the SEC Pitcher of the Year in 2022. He went 10-0 that summer with a 2.39 ERA while posting a huge K/BB ratio of of 8.31, a mighty impressive K/9IP ratio of 12.3, walking only 1.5 batters per 9 innings, and allowing a mere 5.7 hits per 9 - all this factored into a WHIP of 0.797. He regressed in his junior year, however with his K/BB ratio decreasing by over 50% and his ERA rising to 4.75. Despite the less than stellar campaign, the Colorado Rockies still made him a first-round draft pick by selecting him 9th overall in the 2023 Amateur Draft. He signed on July 17th for a $5,716,900 signing bonus.
He made his professional debut the following year, starting the first game for the advanced-A Spokane Indians in 2024 in Avista Stadium. He pretty much dominated the Vancouver Canadians, striking out 8 over five innings without allowing a hit; he did walk three and hit a batter, however. His Indians won 4-2 and began the season 8-0. Dollander won his second start against the Tri-City Dust Devils in Gesa Stadium, striking out 7 over five innings while allowing 1 walk and 4 hits (which included a solo home run by Caleb Ketchup). Not only was he named to the National League squad for the 2024 Futures Game, but he was also his team's starter and got things rolling with a scoreless 1st inning.
His brother, Hunter Dollander, pitched in the White Sox chain.
