• September 28: Homer Bailey of the Reds no-hits the Pirates, 1-0. The seventh no-hitter of the season equals the modern major league record.
• September 27: Doug Fister sets a new American League record by striking out 9 consecutive batters.
• September 24: Spain qualifies to play in the 2013 World Baseball Classic for the first time with a 9-7 extra-inning win over Israel to win its qualifying pool in Jupiter, FL­. Canada also qualifies after sweeping its qualifying pool in Regensburg, Germany.
• September 18 The Reno Aces win the Triple-A Baseball National Championship. A.J. Pollock is named MVP.
• September 16: The Italian national team wins the 2012 European Championship. Lorenzo Avagnina is named European Championship MVP.

• March 27: A group led by Magic Johnson and Stan Kasten is the winner in the bidding process to buy the Los Angeles Dodgers from bankrupt owner Frank McCourt. The $2 billion offered by the group is the highest price ever paid for a North American sports franchise.
