Team History[edit]
The Yokohama Bay Stars began play in 1993 when the Taiyo Whales changed their name. The team, which had been under .500 throughout the 1980s and early 1990s, posted a winning record in 1995 and then won their first Japan Series as the Bay Stars in 1998 behind the play of MVP Kazuhiro Sasaki, batting champ Takanori Suzuki and Bobby Rose. They since have slipped back and finished last in the Central League each year from 2002 through 2004. The team is based in the port city of Yokohama, Kanagawa.
