In 1978, the Taiyo Whales changed their name to the Yokohama Taiyo Whales. The team moved from Kawasaki Stadium Kawasaki, Kanagawa south to Yokohama Stadium in Yokohama, Kanagawa. The name change didn't help as the team finished in higher than third only once (1979) and over .500 twice (1978, 1979) in the team's 15 years. The Whales became the Yokohama BayStars after the 1992 season.
