Biographical Information[edit]

Stephen Pryor was drafted by the Seattle Mariners in the 5th round of the 2010 amateur draft. He was signed by scout Alvin Rittman and made his pro debut that summer.

In only his 4th major league appearance for the Seattle Mariners on June 8, 2012, Pryor was credited with the win in a 1-0 combined no-hitter against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Starter Kevin Millwood had to leave the game after six no-hit innings and the game still scoreless, victim of a mild groin strain. Charlie Furbush succeeded him in the top of the 7th, getting two outs but Elian Herrera reached second base on Furbush's error. Pryor came in to face Juan Rivera and struck him out. The Mariners then scored in the bottom of the inning, making Pryor the pitcher of record. However, he started the next inning by walking the first two men he faced, Bobby Abreu and Jerry Hairston; Lucas Luetge replaced him, then two more pitchers - Brandon League and Tom Wilhelmsen - completed the no-hitter, tying the record of six pitchers in a no-hitter set by the Houston Astros in 2003. He pitched 26 times for Seattle, going 3-1 with a 3.91 ERA. He struck out 27 in 23 innings. He also pitched 29 times in the minor leagues, with three different teams: the Class A High Desert Mavericks on a rehabilitation assignment, the AA Jackson Generals and the AAA Tacoma Rainiers, for a combined record of 1-0, 0.93 with 10 saves.

In 2013, he started the year in Seattle and did not give up a run in 7 appearances before going on the disabled list on April 15th with a strained back muscle. In attempting to work himself back into shape in the minors, he gave up 8 runs in 3 2/3 minor league innings between the Class A Everett AquaSox and AAA Tacoma. In early August, the Mariners announced that he was being shut down for the remainder of the season with a problem in the triceps of his throwing arm.
