2024 Haarlem Baseball Week

The 2024 Haarlem Baseball Week is the 31st edition of the Haarlem Baseball Week . Participating were Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, Spain, Taiwan and the USA. The US sent the junior college All-Stars and Japan sent their collegiate team.

July 12[edit]

  • Netherlands 6, USA 1. Tom de Blok throws six shutout innings to beat Blake Lobell, while 1B Juremi Profar falls a triple shy of a cycle.

July 13[edit]

  • Taiwan 2, Spain 1. Yu-Chieh Wang saves the win for Jun-Wei Zhang, while Pablo Guillen takes the loss.
  • Japan 9, USA 5. LF Misho Nishikawa scores three runs, C Taiga Kajima goes 4 for 5 with 3 RBI and Kentaro Shinogi gets the win. Aiden Butler is the losing hurler, while Jake Munroe collects three hits.
  • Netherlands 4, Italy 0. Lars Huijer (10 K, 3 H in 7 IP) and Ryan Huntington blank the Azzurri, with Matteo Bocchi getting the decision for Italy. SS Stijn van der Meer scores three of the game's four runs.

July 14[edit]

  • USA 6, Italy 4. The Americans get their first win as Ryan Borberg, Jordan Huskey (W) and Eli Hoyt combine to strike out 13. 3B Brayden Smith doubles, triples, walks and scores a pair. Mattia Sireus is the losing pitcher, while DH Lorenzo Morresi scores two for Italy.
  • Netherlands 2, Taiwan 0. Shairon Martis and three relievers team up on the hosts' second straight shutout, with Kevin Kelly saving it. 3B Stijn van der Meer reaches all five times from the leadoff slot. Chung-Hsiang Huang gets the defeat.
  • Japan 5, Spain 4. Yuto Nakamura saves Yuya Fujii's win, beating Royd Hernández. 3B Kengo Yanagidate has 3 hits and 2 runs for Japan, while 1B Jesús Ustariz goes yard for Spain.

July 15[edit]

  • Japan 2, Taiwan 0. DH Kaiga Tojima drives in the game's only runs with a homer and a sacrifice fly. Tatsuki Ito, Yuya Fujii (W), Ren Noguchi and Tasuka Ichikawa combine on a five-hitter, beating Zi-Hao Huang.
  • Italy 10, Spain 3. Spain has its first lopsided game, routed by their European rivals. DH Lorenzo Morresi and RF Nathanael Batista each score three times, while 3B Filippo Agretti and 1B Samuele Gamberini each drive in three. Gabriele Quattrini gets the win, Jorge Balboa the loss. 3B Leopoldo Correa raps three hits in a losing cause.
  • USA 6, Taiwan 5. 3B/1B Jake Munroe collects three hits and Brynner Waiolama defeats Yu-Chieh Wang. LF Jun-Wei Zhang has three hits for Taiwan.

  • Taiwan 5, Italy 3. With a 2-2 game going into the bottom of the 8th, Taiwan rallies for three off Alex Bassani to give Jun-Wei Zhang the win.
  • USA 2, Spain 0. Maclane Finley and Davis Wright combine on a three-hitter and CF Bobby Bolin scores both US runs as Spain finishes the round-robin winless despite some close games. Elio Silva takes the loss, while former major leaguer Engel Beltre has two of their three hits.
  • Japan 5, Netherlands 1. The two unbeaten teams squared off and Naruki Teranishi, Tatsuki Ito and Azuma Sotomaru scattered 11 hits while 2B Ayuto Matsushita collects three for the victors. Koen Postelmans is the losing hurler, while RF Denzel Richardson drives in 1B Juremi Profar with the lone run for the Netherlands.

July 18[edit]

  • Spain 13, Italy 4. After a winless round-robin, Spain tops Italy in the 5th/6th place game. Pablo Guillen and Federico Virgadaula each go three shutout innings but Spain pounds Francesco Pomponi and the Italian bullpen to give the win to Orlando Rodríguez. 1B Jesús Ustariz drives in four runs and homers again, while RF Filippo Agretti has three hits for Italy.
  • Japan 8, Taiwan 0. Japan kept cruising into the finals as Hayato Takagi strikes out 11 in a one-hitter, only walking one as well, to top Li-Chen Wu. 2B Akira Shigenaga goes 3-for-3 with three RBI. Backup 2B Cheng-Chun Yang has the only hit for Taiwan.
  • USA 2, Netherlands 1. The US avenges an earlier loss to move on to the finals, ruining the hosts' hopes. Tom de Blok and Lars Huijer shut out the US for 8 innings while C Sem Kuijper drove in SS Tyriq Kemp with the only Dutch run off Blake Lobell, Liam Watt (5 shutout IP) and Austin Jobe. The Americans tied it in the 9th then score in the 10th off Kevin Kelly when veteran 2B Dwayne Kemp's error lets in SS Gehrig Goldbeck with the winner.

July 19[edit]

  • Netherlands 4, Taiwan 0. The hosts salvage the Bronze as Shairon Martis and Scott Prins team up on a six-hitter, walking none. Chung-Hsiang Huang, Kaun-Ying Chen and Yu-Chieh Wang match their scoreless pitching until the bottom of the 8th, when the Europeans score four times off Wang. Backup RF Sem Kuijper smacks a two-run homer.
  • Japan 10, USA 4. Japan uses a six-run 6th to rally to win the title. CF Motomu Iiyama scores three times and RF Seiya Watanabe had three hits and three RBI. Yuto Nakamura, Kentaro Shinogi and Yuya Fujii combine to fan 12, Fujii notching a three-inning save for winner Shinogi. 1B Jake Munroe hits a two-run homer for the US, while Jordan Huskey gets the loss.
