Ben Thijssen

Ben Thijssen played and coached in Hoofdklasse. He was an outfielder who got his start with a club in Curaçao before coming to the mainland Netherlands. He became a head coach in Hoofdklasse with Vitron Tilburg in 1999. In 2001, he was appointed as third base coach for the Dutch national team, a position he would hold until 2007; he was a coach in the 2001 European Championship, 2001 Baseball World Cup, 2003 European Championship, 2003 Baseball World Cup, 2005 Baseball World Cup, 2006 World Baseball Classic, 2006 Intercontinental Cup, 2010 European Championship, 2014 European Championship and 2017 U-18 Baseball World Cup among other events. From 2002-2005, Thijssen was third base coach for DOOR Neptunus when they won four consecutive Holland Series. In 2006, he became head coach of Corendon Kinheim and guided them to back-to-back Holland Series titles. His run of victories ended in the 2008 Holland Series when Kinheim was upset by the Amsterdam Pirates. After that Series, he returned home to Curaçao and was replaced at the reigns by Eelco Jansen. As of 2012, he was the Curaçao scout for the Boston Red Sox.
