Biographical Information[edit]

Marco Artitzu has pitched in the Serie A1 and for the Italian national team.

He debuted with Senago in 2021, going 1-1 with two saves and a 3.72 ERA as a teenager, striking out 34 in 29 IP. He pitched 3 1/3 hitless innings for Italy in the 2021 U23 European Championship but walked four. [1] Moving to Big Mat in 2022, he was 3-1 with 3 saves, a 3.77 ERA and 60 K in 45 1/3 IP.

Artitzu was 3-2 with a save, a 3.51 ERA and 44 K in 33 1/3 IP in 2023. In the 2023 U23 European Championship, he allowed four runs (three earned) in 1 1/3 innings but got the win over Czechia and Šimon Blažek. [2] He then made Italy's team for the 2023 European Championship. In his debut, he closed out a disappointing 8-3 loss to Sweden; taking over for Maurizio Andretta, he struck out Tommy Lindell and got Joel Johnson to fly out. Versus Great Britain, he took over for Nick Davis with the game with a 10-8 deficit in the 9th. He allowed a Michael Flaherty single, Nateshon Thomas walk and Rayondre Mercer single then Harry Ford had a sac fly. He retired Nick Ward and Aaron Singh to avoid further damage. His last outing came against Croatia in the 9th/10th place game. Replacing Alex Bassani with men on the corners, two out and a 6-5 lead, he saved it by whiffing Ronnie Krsolovic on three pitches.
