Biographical Information[edit]

Nick Davis has pitched for the Italian national team. His father Mark Davis and uncle Mike Davis played in the majors, while uncle Johnnie Davis played in the minors. [1]

Nick was 2-2 with a save and 44 K in 37 innings as a high school senior, hitting .314. He also was captain of their football team and played basketball. [2] He allowed three runs (one earned) in one inning for Northeastern University in 2020 and pitched two shutout innings for them in '21. He had a 5.67 ERA in 16 outings in 2022 and had a 2-2, 5.04 record in '23. Going to Georgetown as a graduate student, he then appeared for Italy in the 2023 European Championship. [3]

His debut for Italy came in their first game against Hungary. Relieving Mattia Aldegheri in the 7th, he closed out a 15-2 mercy rule win, striking out Carlos Rubio, then getting Ádám Domsicz and Norbert Goór on grounders. His second outing came versus Silver Medalist Great Britain. He took over for Alex Bassani in the 7th with a 9-7 deficit, a man on third and one out. He got Harry Ford to fly out but the runner scored. He then retired Nick Ward to end the inning. In the 8th, after Italy closed it back to 10-8, he whiffed Aaron Singh. Ben Leid singled but Davis struck out Shamoy Christopher and got Jackson Pritchard to end the frame. Marco Artitzu took over for him. His last game of the event was against Croatia in the 9th/10th place game. He succeeded Mattia Sireus in the 7th with a 2-1 deficit. He walked veteran Slobodan Gales then Jose Herrera hit into a force. Philip Smith also walked and Antonio Horvatić bunted the runners over. A Justin Olic single brought them both in to make it 4-1 before Davis struck out Petar Rumora. Bassani relieved and Italy rallied for a 6-5 win. Davis finished with a 4.91 ERA; he tied Artitzu for Italy's team lead in games pitched, tied for 7th in the event. [4]
