Biographical Information[edit]
Slobodan Gales debuted for the Croatian national team at age 17, in the 2005 European Championship. He was 0-1 with a 4.11 ERA in four games; his 15 1/3 IP were second on the squad behind veteran Tetsuhiro Monna's 17. He went 0-1 with a 6.00 ERA in the 2007 European Championship, losing to the Swedish national team, and walked in his only trip to the plate. In the 2008 European Championship Qualifiers, Gales went 7 for 15 with 4 doubles, a homer, 3 walks, 7 runs, 5 RBI and 3 steals in four games. He tossed five shutout innings of two-hit ball and picked up the win against Bulgaria. He was third in the event in average, second in hits, tied with Jason Pospishil for the most runs, tied for first in doubles, tied for third in RBI, first in total bases (14), tied for first in homers and second in steals. He lost MVP honors to Oren Gal of Israel, but Croatia took the tourney title and a spot in the 2009 European Championship.
Gales was named best pitcher of the Croatian league in 2006 and 2008 and best outfielder in 2007.
Gales played for Olimpija Karlovac in the 2008 European Cup in Regensburg, going 1 for 13 but with 4 walks and 3 runs. He was 1-0 with a 11.81 ERA for the club.
Gales played for Georgia Perimeter College in 2009, but had Tommy John surgery in February.
