Biographical Information[edit]

Mexican national Carlos Rubio had been playing baseball in Hungary for several years before he joined the Hungarian national team in 2021. In the 2021 European Championship Qualifiers, he was 4 for 9 with 3 walks, a double, homer, 3 runs and 4 RBI. [1] During the 2022 European Championship Qualifier, he batted .353/.542/.882 with 3 homers, 7 walks, 9 runs and 6 RBI in 5 games. He was third in that year's qualifiers in runs, tied Mael Zan and Steffen Torgensen for the most dingers and tied for the most walks. Sean Fekete was the pool MVP as Hungary won a spot in the 2023 European Championship, their first European Championship. [2]

In the 2023 Euros, he hit 5th and played catcher in Hungary's debut, versus Italy. He was retired by Matteo Bocchi his first time up. After going hitless his first two games, his first hit was off Croatia's José Mendoza. He was 5-for-6 against Greece but 2-for-11 in the other games to finish at .438/.471/.500. He handled 24 chances error-free but allowed 15 steals in 16 tries. He also pitched once, allowing six runs in one inning against Great Britain. He allowed the most steals in the event (four more than Fabian Kovacs) but he was second on Hungary in hits, trailing Graeham Luttor. [3]
