Biographical Information[edit]

Fabian Kovacs has played in the French Division I and for the French national team.

Kovacs debuted in Division I in 2016, going 4 for 12 with two walks and three runs for the Montpellier Barracudas. [1] In the 2016 European Junior Championship, he went 6 for 13 with a double, two triples, two walks, two times plunked, five runs and two RBI in four games. He was 5th in average (between Cesare Astorri and Richard Brereton), led in slugging (.013 ahead of Brereton), was third in OBP (behind Tijmen Takke and Nikita Laykov) and tied for second in triples. In 2017, he hit .196/.309/.261 for Montpellier, then .325/.419/.450 in 2018. [3] He hit .333/.444/.467 with ten runs and five RBI in four games in the 2018 European Junior Championship. He tied for third in runs (behind Jeandro Tromp and Tommaso Giarola). [4] During 2019, he batted .213/.284/.348 and had no errors in 179 chances for Montpellier, throwing out 10 of 17 who tried to steal. He led the league in fielding (no one else had more than 60 chances without making an error). [5] In the 2019 European Championship U23, he was 3 for 8 with a walk, three times plunked, two runs and two RBI in four games. [6]

He was one of two French players at Hillsborough Community College, alongside Paolo Brossier. He produced at a .283/.321/.415 clip. [7] The 2020 French season was wiped out by the COVID-19 pandemic. He hit .396/.426/.458 in his return to the diamond in '21. [8]

In the 2022 Confederation Cup, he drove in four in a win over the Therwil Flyers and finished the event 4-for-20 with 3 runs and 5 RBI. He allowed two runs in 1 1/3 IP. He tied Richard Montiel and Ismael Pontiac for 7th in the Cup in RBI. [9] He made his debut for France's senior national team in the 2022 European Championship Qualifier, going 0 for 3 with a walk and hit-by-pitch against Ireland. He backed up Nolan Soliveres. [10] In the French Division I that summer, he hit .307/.369/.440 for the Barracudas with 19 runs in 19 games, fielding .985. He tied for second in the loop with three triples, one shy of Bastien Dagneau. [11] He wrapped up a busy year at the 2022 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers, he backed up Ivan Acuña at catcher and did not get into a game. [12]
